Frequently Asked Questions
Why are relationships so hard to keep?
Everyone goes into their romantic relationship hoping it will last forever. As time goes by, conflicts arise and feelings are hurt. Many times these conflicts are not resolved. Unresolved arguments lead to miscommunications. Miscommunications add to more conflicts which add to more hurt feelings and more pain. Couples in pain pull away from each other in order to keep from getting hurt. Pulling away creates distance. Distancing in a loving relationship starts the slippery slope to finding an exit.
How does couples counseling help keep relationships together?
Stonewall Behavioral Health's counselors know a couple of things about relationships. First we know that people hook up correctly. Our clients choose the right partners, they just need to learn how to understand the cause of the pain and fix it. Secondly,
we know how to teach our clients the communication skills needed to understand themselves and share that understanding with their partners. When couples can accept themselves and each other, less miscommunication happens. There is less conflict. With less conflict, there is less pain. Understanding heals the pain. Let us help you resolve your conflicts and keep the love in your relationship.
How did Stonewall Behavioral Health come to be?
In the late 1970s, Candy Marcum, founder of Stonewall Behavioral Health, was looking for a couples counselor to help her with her 15 year romantic relationship. There were no openly gay counselors in Dallas at that time. The only option for help were lay helpers associated with the local gay and lesbian church. She knew that GLBT people deserved to have their relationships treated by professionals who were as credentialed as the professionals serving the non GLBT community.
As a young family counselor, Candy knew it was time for Dallas to have good mental health treatment for its GLBT community. She thought if not her then who would be willing to come out as a credentialed couples therapist. Stonewall Behavioral Health's main focus is to help the GLBT person live a more healthy, fulfilling and satisfying life. There is nothing more fulfilling and satisfying than to love and be loved. We can help you too. Contact us for an appointment. 214-521-1278
